Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

I am Mrs Steenberg, the Year 4 teacher. We also have Mrs K Knight (HLTA), Mrs E Mcloughlin and Miss Travers as support staff.

Curriculum

Our termly topic overviews are sent to parents via parent hub and are also available on the Learning page of the school website. These overviews summarise the learning for each subject every term.

Punctuality

It is really important to be ready for learning. The school gates open at 8.40 and children should be seated in the classroom by 8.45 ready to start the day’s activities.

P.E Days in Year 4:

Our P.E days for this term are Tuesdays and Fridays. Our Tuesday PE session is an outdoor session. Children should come into school wearing their full St. Thomas More P.E kit. Please ensure they have navy P.E uniform and appropriate footwear. On Fridays, we head over to Gosford Leisure Centre where we have a swimming lesson.  We come to school in our normal school uniform on Fridays and change at the Leisure Centre for our swimming lesson.

For swimming, all children are required to have:

  • Swimming towel
  • Full costume (girls) trunks (boys)
  • Swimming hat
  • Goggles (optional)

Reading:

We use PageTicker to record your child's home reading. Children are expected to read at least five times each week, with five entries recorded in PageTicker. Reading records will be checked every Friday by the class teacher to monitor progress and encourage regular reading at home.

Supporting Learning at Home

We really value your support at home. Encouraging your child to read every day, practise times tables and spellings, and check their homework helps to build good routines and confidence. Here are some recommended websites that can be accessed from home. These sites provide activities and games to make revision fun and engaging.

Contact:

Should you need to be in touch, all communication should generally be made through the school office email. However, I am also happy to receive a note from you if your child is unable to do PE or requires support with their homework.

Our main form of contact with you will continue to be Parent Hub, so please check this regularly for updates and curriculum information!  The Parent Hub School Portal is designed to streamline interactions between school and home.

As always, please do ask if you have any questions at all!

Kind regards,

Mrs Steenberg
