Year 3
Welcome to Year 3:
Our Year 3 teacher is Mr Young, who is joined by Mrs Knight as teaching assistant.
Curriculum Learning:
All of our curriculum learning can be found below in the topic overviews for the term ahead, this information is also sent out on parenthub at the beginning of each half term.
Punctuality:
The school gates open at 8.40, children have an initial maths task to complete as they become seated by 8.45 ready to start the remainder of the day’s learning.
PE days in Year 3:
Our PE days in Year 3 are a Monday and Tuesday each week. On these days, children need to come into school wearing their full St. Thomas More PE kit. Jewellery should also not be worn on PE days, pupils must be able to remove any jewellery independently in order to participate within lessons.
Reading:
Reading journals are checked on a Tuesday each week. Children are expected to have completed 5 reading entries per week of 5-15 minutes of reading followed by writing one short paragraph on what they have read over the week. Entry sheets are stuck in per page for easy recording.
Homework:
Written homework is handed out on Thursdays and includes spelling word list, an English piece and a maths piece of work. This written homework is handed in by Tuesday and marked. Online homework through Spelling Shed and Times Tables Rockstars are set on a Friday and due to be completed the following Friday.
Supporting Learning at Home:
Support at home is incredibly valued. Encouraging your child to read every day, practise spellings, times tables and check homework helps to build good routines and confidence as well as fluency in their understanding. Below are some websites that can provide extra activities and games to support learning.
