Reception

Paddington Family is taught by Mrs Ewers.

Miss Summersbee, Miss Scott, and Miss Wan also support learning in Reception
Class.

All children require trainers for outdoor play and wellington boots. Each child also requires a book
bag and water bottle which should be carried in to school separately each day. Thank you for clearly
labelling all items.

Please see termly over view for PE day this term, your child should wear full St Thomas More PE kit to school on Fridays along with their school shoes. Children will change into trainers for their PE lesson.
No jewellery is permitted for PE lessons as per our uniform policy. Thank you for supporting this.

Your child will bring home a Phonics reading book each week, the book is at the correct level for
them. Our reading homework expectation is that each child reads at home 5 times weekly and this is
to be recorded in their reading journal which will also be brought home daily.

Your child will also bring a reading for pleasure book home each week and we ask that you share this
with your child to further support their love of reading. Books are changed weekly so that we
support and encourage fluency.
Your child will also read in school a minimum of 3 times each week, where we support decoding,
prosody (reading with expression) and comprehension.
Children should have their reading books and reading journals in school every day.

In maths we follow the mastering number programme, more information on maths and all areas of
learning can be found on our termly topic overview which is also available on the website.

The Department for Education’s Giving Every Child the Best Start in Life

The Department for Education’s Giving Every Child the Best Start in Life strategy highlights the importance of the early years in shaping a child’s future learning, wellbeing and opportunities. The DfE recognises that children develop rapidly from birth to age five and that high-quality early education, strong family support and positive relationships are essential for helping children thrive. The strategy aims to ensure that every child, regardless of background, is school-ready and able to achieve their full potential by improving access to childcare, supporting parents and strengthening the quality of early years education and care. It also focuses on reducing inequalities and giving families the support they need through services such as family hubs, early intervention and skilled early years professionals.
