Our School Houses
Our school houses are named after significant places where Our Lady appeared: Knock, Fatima, Medjugorje, and Lourdes.
Each child is assigned to one of the houses when they join our school. Every week, house-points are awarded to children who demonstrate the school values and virtues. House-points are shared in Friday celebration assemblies. Children are encouraged to understand the history behind these sacred places and why they are important to Catholic people.
Knock – County Mayo, Ireland
On 21 August 1879, villagers in Knock, Ireland witnessed an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and Saint John the Apostle at the gable wall of their parish church. The figures appeared surrounded by bright light while the villagers gathered in prayer during a stormy evening. The vision also included an altar with a Lamb and a Cross, and the apparition remained for over two hours.
Knock has since become a place of pilgrimage, with many people visiting the shrine, and the Church has recognised reports of miraculous healings connected to the site.
Lourdes – France
In 1858, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old girl, in Lourdes, France. During the apparitions, Bernadette was asked to dig in the ground, where a spring of water appeared that is still known today for healing.
Lourdes has become one of the most important places of pilgrimage in the world, with many reported miracles and healings recognised by the Catholic Church. The image of Our Lady of Lourdes, dressed in white with a blue sash, reminds us of her message of prayer, faith and trust in God.
Fátima – Portugal
In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Fátima, Portugal. Mary asked the children to pray the Rosary every day and to pray for peace in the world. Thousands of people later witnessed the famous “Miracle of the Sun.”
Fátima is now an important place of pilgrimage, reminding us of the importance of prayer, repentance and trusting in God.
Medjugorje – Bosnia and Herzegovina
In 1981, six children in Medjugorje reported seeing the Blessed Virgin Mary, who spoke to them about peace, prayer and returning to God. Her message encouraged people to pray, read the Bible, go to Mass, fast and go to confession.
Many pilgrims visit Medjugorje each year to pray and grow closer to God through Mary’s message of peace and faith.
